To my OBSESSIVE and dear friend!

I started to think, "What comes to my mind when I think about you as the captain of our sweetheart, the TSS cricket team?". Believe me, "Obsession" is all that you painted before me.

ఎన్ని sittingsలో మనం దీనిగురించి వాదించుకున్నామో, అప్పటి captainని నువ్వు ఎంత శాస్త్రీయంగా (scientific, if you will) ఖండించావో (censored :-)) స్పష్టంగా గుర్తుంది మచ్చా. I must say, your approach towards that was very new and a bit intense, and that is where I started to see your 'obsession'. కారణం ఏమైనా, కొద్దిగా ఆలస్యమైనా, eventually, you led us, and lead us to multiple victories. See, I told you,

Next thing is, your obsession to try out new things on the field, of course, we ended up doing it off the field too. ఎంత సేపూ, non-aggressive, routine, safe, defensive field setకి అలవాటు పడిన teamకి కొత్త రక్తం తెచ్చావేమో, stay on the ground, I am not finished yet. Slipsలో tight field, aggressive pace bowling, just కొన్ని ఉదాహరణలే. Now, I suppose it has become a habit to us. Again, full credit to your obsession.

I was initially sceptical about it. అంతకు ముందువరకు, cricket is gentlemen's game, మా heros (సచిన్,ద్రావిడ్,కుంబ్లే,లక్ష్మణ్,శ్రీనాథ్ etc.) were all less aggressive with on field talking, etc. ఇలాంటివి చెప్పుకుని,we did not practice it. కానీ, game evolves, I think, you brought that fire (:-P) with you. You remember, from behind the stumps how we got MCB Bharath out, not just once, but on multiple occasions. We did Lachith also that way. And the peak of that was, of course in KK-KR. Barring some small issues, that was one memorable tournament to cherish for a lifetime, again, must say, you did play a vital role among others to make it what it is.

Team composition was one thing, I as a captain and many other leaders, sort of given less importance to. బహుశా, మా కారణాలు వేరు, at least, in my case, winning was not the main motive, so, easy to understand. Players availability was also another reason, I guess, you had a luxury of options.

I think you handled the seniors and juniors in the team very well. Many of us think that respect means listening to or obeying the seniors. But, no, I think respect means the courage to genuinely discuss the issues and to act with bigger picture in mind. Of all the people, I think,  I am the one who can best endorse you on that :-).

Another one of your obsessions is to celebrate on the field. You showed, at least to me, how to celebrate our hearts out. Of course, its just your expression, but yes, what is the whole point of sports, if you hold the expressions of joy that come out of an exceptional display of sporting skill. Having said that, I am gonna warn you about getting carried away with your dances, because we have uncles playing in the opposition :-P (I mean, one who plays in Praveen's team).

జాగ్రత్తగా గమనిస్తే, many of us enjoyed their successful game during your time, if not their best. రోహిత్ ఐతే almost allrounder అయిపోయాడు, (this is one way to see the top order failure :-P).  వివేక్ ఐతే KK-KR లో super star with bagging the legend more than 4 times, if i am not wrong. CM was always a strong addition, provided he practices and plays. I know, how much you went after him to play. అలాంటి commitment ఉన్నపుడే IPL (IISc వాలా) లాంటి విజయాలు సాధ్యమవుతాయి, అనుమానమే లేదు, it was our commitment to team that made us the champions. You were most successful in making all of us (even the non playing lot) to own the team. I couldn't imagine the publicizing we did, sorry, YOU MADE US to do, over mails, FB walls, noticeboards, what not, every where. Whatsapp statusల గురించి చెప్పోద్దులే. And, it played,  played big time!

You are a perfect example of the modern day 'David-Golliath'. And, you proved that not just once, but twice: KK_KR and the IPL. Honestly, I think I speak not just for me but for all, when I say we had no idea that you will win the KK-KR or that we will win the IPL. Its just your Obsession to win. Seriously. We had no Ajays, no Naveens, no Karthiks. If we look back, all that we had was a shaky batting order backed by a decent bowling and a stronger fielding, if you will. Not the tools you would wish to have to be champions. But, then we had one extraordinary thing, your obsession to win. Be it, begging Bharath UG to play, making the legend to come back (I am sure, he was more than happy to do that) from Hyderabad to play the matches just days before his international travel, the professionalism that was inculcated into the team and manifested in many ways such as practising, learning, sharing, enjoying the games, etc. And, guess what, it was no anti-climax, we did! Of course, we hadn't done it in style, but thats it, most of the exceptional things happen in that fashion. I am pretty sure on that day we won not just the championship but a lot of respect and love in the campus as well.

(At the end of Karmel Kranthi (KK)'s captaincy term for the TSS Cricket Club, IISc Bangalore, on behalf of the club.)
